The Three Main Causes of Battery Drain During a Workout

For most people, the iPhone battery life is more than sufficient to complete your Fitdigits workout. Then there are the hardcore athletes. If you fall in the latter group, here are a few tips to make sure your iPhone will have the battery life necessary to complete a multiple hour run or ride. For a complete list of ways to optimize battery life, visit the Apple Website or the Fitdigits page on Battery Life. Here are the 3 most important ways to optimize your battery life:

1. Reduce Screen Brightness/ Lock Screen
The higher the screen brightness, the more battery life is used. You can lower your iPhone’s brightness by opening your iPhone Settings -> “Display and Brightness, and adjusting your brightness accordingly. You can also change screen brightness by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. A better option for extending battery life is to lock your screen while you are working out. To do so, tap the Sleep/Wake button on the top right of your iPhone. Fitdigits will continue recording data even though the screen is black.

2. Turn off Location Services
Mapping your route may be cool, but it drains your battery and is not particularly useful if you frequently run or ride the same route. If you are looking to maximize battery life, you should turn Location Services off. To turn off Location Services, go to your iPhone Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services, and turn “Location Services” to OFF.

3. Turn on Airplane Mode
If you are going on a very long ride, turn on Airplane Mode to turn off Location Services, Wi-Fi, Notifications, and ability to receive and make phone calls.
